Micro Worlds
For this project your will create your own miniature worlds in the style of slinkahu, fiddle oak and Joel Robinson
Key skills – Depth of Field, Focal points, Composition, effective use of manual settings, understanding aperture control, tilt shift.
Aperture
A small aperture limits the light that comes into the camera making the image and background sharp (in focus)
The aperture is the part of the camera that lets the light in.

Activity 1
LO: To develop an understanding of Macro Photography by creating a research page in your sketchbooks
Create a double research page on ‘Macro Photography’
Create a title, get images and write a description of what Macro photography is.
What does a successful macro image look like?
•Sharp focal point
•Blurry background
•Photo should be taken at eye
level
•Get as close to your subject
as possible.
•Use your imagination!!

LO: To experiment with macro photography techniques by taking photographs of objects in groups
•In groups choose some objects from the table.
•Place the objects very carefully into a composition.
•Use the Macro setting on the camera
(the tulip)
•Take 6-8 photographs each
•Change the composition and swap objects with other groups.
•Download your images into Iphoto. Print off as a contact sheet, choose 3 of your best images to present alongside your contact sheet.
•Annotate using the word bank and annotation sheet for help.

Activity 3
LO: To create and photograph a micro world inspired by the artist Slinkachu.
•Create 3-6 different compositions using either the same objects or different objects.
•Use the objects available and the objects you have brought in to create your micro landscape.
•Your photographs should tell a story.
•It should express a mood: Happy, sad, lonely, isolated, hopeful etc.
•It should have a shallow depth of field and a sharp focal point.

Research
LO: To research the art of Fiddle Oak or Joel Robinson. Plan how to re-create a similar image inspired by your artists.
•Complete a single page of artists research on Fiddle oak or Joel Robinson, with title.
• choose one of their images and anaylse it with this sheet.

•You will need 2 photographs.
•One of you and one of a background.
Consider the following
•What story do you want to tell?
•What mood do you want to express?
•What background do you want to be placed in?
•What will you be doing, sitting/standing/lying/walking/reading?

Activity 4
LO: To experiment with macro photography and the technique of superimposing by creating an image inspired by Fiddle Oak/joel robinson.
•Take a macro photograph of your background.
•Take a photograph of yourself against a plain, light coloured background (a wall would be good) It will make it easier to cut out in Photoshop.
•Drag both images into Photoshop cut yourself out and superimpose yourself into your back ground.
•Follow the sheet of instructions.
•Print off and present in your book with a title ‘My Fiddle Oak experiment’ an evaluation.

Create a marco image of your choice telling a story about youself using any of the styles you have researched.
in your books display your contact sheet showing all the images you have taken and pick out your favourite ones to display bigger.

Your image should:
•look realistic, this will depend
on your superimposing skills.
•Be creative and imaginative.
•Tell a story
•Express a mood
•Show an aspect of your own identity.
