'Surrealism'
This lesson you will create your own Rene Magritte surrealist portrait. I will show you how to take a self portrait in the studio using the lights and camera in manual mode. In groups of four you will take a head shot and a full body shot of each other.
Those of you who are not taking photos will be taking a photo of an object you have in your pocket/ always carry with you and placing it on a photobooth portrait. Then a research page on Rene Magritte.

Use the selection and refine tools in photoshop
Success Criteria: A surreal selfie with no hard edgies!
1.Put both your portrait and image of object in Photoshop.
2.Select the object using the magnetic lasso tool until you have marching ants.
3.Then there is a button on top that says refine edge. Click on this and a menu will appear.
4.Move the button along the smooth and feather bar to make the edge of the picture less harsh.
5.Use the move tool to put this over your face.

Use the contents of your pencil case or school bag. You will then arrange these and take a picture of the arrangement. This image is to be placed in your sketchbook. If you are waiting for a camera, you can do a research page on Camilla Catrambone and find another artist who uses objects within their portraits.
LO: To experiment with combining objects and portraits to create images that represent that persons identity.

1.OBJECTS
Use the contents of your pencil case or school bag. You will then arrange these and take a picture of the arrangement. This image is to be placed in your sketchbook. If you are waiting for a camera, you can do a research page on Camilla Catrambone and find another artist who uses objects within their portraits.
2.FLOOR PORTRAIT
Put a white bit of paper on the floor or go to an area of the floor that is all one colour. Lay your objects around your head and get someone to take a picture of you.
3.SCAN
Place your objects on the scanner bed and scan your face. Airdrop the picture from my laptop to your computer.
4. EXPLODED HEAD
•Work in pairs or groups and take a photograph of yourself
in the studio on a white background.
•Use the quick selection tool to select yourself, cmd c cmd v
to copy and paste
•Open a new document File – new – international paper this
will create an A4 document.
•Drag yourself into the new document.
•Use the Polygon lasso tool to select the top part of your
head. When you see the marching ants hit cmd T to transform
•Then move the selected top of the head to create the
opening.
•Photograph your objects on a white background then follow
the instruction above to select and drag your objects onto your
open head or get PNG images off the internet
•Present your final image alongside artist research Lynn Skordal
